Welcome Dorrie Sieburg to FBRA as the new Admissions and Communications Director for the Girls School. Dorrie’s work and life experience over the last twenty years have pointed her toward FBRA all along the way.
After graduating from Penn State University with a BS in Education, Dorrie worked for the Student Conservation Association and Padilla Bay Estuarine Research Reserve in Bay View Washington. Following those experiences, her next professional stint was teaching second grade at the Centro de Educacion Creativo in Monteverde, Costa Rica. In 2002, Dorrie moved to Asheville and taught Spanish, math, and science at Carolina Day School for four years. From 2009 to 2019, Dorrie worked for two different non-profits, ultimately managing national salary negotiations and gender equity programming for colleges and universities, municipalities, state governments, and non-profits and corporations. The past two years, Dorrie has helped Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn to grow from a fledgling start-up to over 2,000 wholesale accounts. In short, Dorrie has been an outdoor educator, classroom teacher, non-profit administrator, lived and worked in Costa Rica, and helped manage a startup. FBRA seems like a perfect fit.
A little more digging reveals that Dorrie actually was there, to some degree, at the founding of FBRA. She and Will Yeiser were neighborhood friends back in 2008 when Will was working with David Byers to dream up what would become FBRA. Both Will and Dorrie remember having conversations fourteen years ago about what would become the French Broad River Academy. Starting on July 1, the circle completes and Dorrie Sieburg will become an integral part of the organization.
